Samsung One UI 8.5’s Private Display Feature Revolutionizes Galaxy Privacy
The rollout of the One UI 8 update is underway for Galaxy phones and tablets, and Samsung is already laying the groundwork for One UI 8.5, the next major software update. Even before the official announcement, upcoming features are beginning to surface. A significant highlight is a new capability called Private Display, which could be a total game-changer. Recent leaks now reveal how this advanced privacy feature functions and how users stand to benefit.
Hints of this new privacy function, likely to debut with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, had previously emerged. Part of the feature may necessitate a new screen technology dubbed the Samsung Magic Flex panel, while the rest relies on software optimization and activation. Thanks to an internal One UI 8.5 build and the official APK, we now have a clearer understanding of its mechanics.
Users Gain Control Over Private Display
Leaker Achultra shared details on X, showcasing the Private Display settings. As the name implies, it’s designed to give users enhanced privacy on their screens.
The main settings page indicates the mode can be automatically activated when “Auto Privacy Mode” is toggled on. This requires specific conditions to be met, such as viewing sensitive applications like banking or financial services, or using the phone in crowded public areas like elevators or public transport.
Users can also customize when and how the mode activates via the Custom Conditions section. This includes setting specific locations, enabling Private Display when the screen is locked, or when viewing images with sensitive content. There’s also an option to integrate the feature with notifications and apps running in floating or picture-in-picture modes.
At the bottom of the settings page, a toggle labeled “Maximum Privacy” is available. According to its description, this further dims the screen for ultimate discretion.
While the feature was activated via an APK without One UI 8.5, it is strongly expected to launch with the Galaxy S26 Ultra due to the associated hardware requirements of the new display panel. This integrated privacy mode offers a superior alternative to physical privacy screen protectors, which often add bulk and limit customization. One UI 8.5 is anticipated to launch alongside the Galaxy S26 series early next year.
