Google Pixel 9a Hits $399: A Reason to Skip the Pixel 10a
If you prefer a compact phone with a killer camera, the Google Pixel 9a is now on sale and worth a look. The device has dropped to one of its best prices yet. Learn why it’s a better budget phone than the Pixel 10a.
Those on the fence about buying a new smartphone without breaking the bank should check out the current sale on Google’s Pixel devices. This includes last year’s Pixel 9a, which is now down to $399 at Amazon, or $50 below its newly adjusted regular price of $449.
While it’s a modest saving, it’s still $100 cheaper than stepping up to the Pixel 10a. The deal applies to the base 128 GB model and is available in all four colorways: Obsidian, Iris, Peony, and Porcelain.
Why Choose the Google Pixel 9a?
Since the Pixel 10a is essentially just a minor update, the Pixel 9a (review) becomes a much more compelling buy for budget-conscious users. The differences between the two are minimal.
On its own, the Pixel 9a is already an impressive mid-ranger. It features a semi-compact design that’s comfortable for one-handed use, something many people prefer. It sports a vibrant 6.3-inch OLED display with 1080p resolution, up to 2,700 nits brightness, and a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate. This is nearly identical to the Pixel 10a, with the only notable difference being the latter’s slightly higher 3,000-nit peak brightness.

Internally, very little has changed. Both phones are powered by the Tensor G4 chipset paired with 8 GB of RAM. Performance on the Pixel 9a remains snappy even during demanding tasks. Like Google’s flagship models, it also receives a full 7 years of Android OS and security updates.
Photography is another strong suit. The Pixel 9a is headlined by a 48 MP main camera and a 13 MP ultrawide, delivering photos with excellent detail and natural colors. Thanks to Google’s AI and computational photography, you also get useful features like enhanced zoom. It can record 4K video from both the front and rear cameras.
