Finally: WhatsApp Just Dropped Features I’ve Wanted for Years

WhatsApp’s latest update is more than just a minor tweak. From freeing up phone storage without losing your chats to finally supporting dual accounts on iPhone, these new features are total game-changers. Here is how to use them.

Storage has been a bottleneck for many smartphone users, including heavy WhatsApp fans. For many years, managing storage on the messaging app has been arduous, but over time, Meta has introduced purposeful tools for this. Now, it is rolling out an update that includes a suite of essential features that could be significantly more helpful in clearing up your memory without deleting your conversations.

Clear Files But Not Chats

The new tool comes with the latest WhatsApp update that is rolling out right now. Technically, it is an enhanced Manage Storage feature that lets you selectively choose which files in a chat to delete. You can pick files that take up chunky space, like videos and documents. There is also an option to delete all media files while retaining your chat history.

The Manage Storage tool is accessible in every chat by tapping the chat name. The feature is also available for group chats, which are often the biggest culprits for storage clutter. Once deleted, the files are only cleared on your side and do not affect the other participants. This ensures they can still access those cherished messages.

Two WhatsApp Numbers on One iPhone

In addition to Manage Storage, the update is adding dual-account support for iOS users. This is a capability enjoyed by Android users for some time now, allowing you to add a second account on the same iPhone or iPad without needing another device.

The feature improves productivity by providing the same convenience as having two separate phones. For instance, you can have one account for work and another for personal use. You can manage both accounts through the main settings menu, and you will always know which profile you are currently using by looking at the profile picture.

Transfer Chats from iPhone to Android

There is also another addition that benefits both Android and iOS: cross-platform transfer. As the name suggests, users can seamlessly transfer chat history, photos, and videos between an iPhone and an Android. It is a vital addition when you are moving to a new phone.

Finally, two AI tools are arriving with this update. The first is photo editing using Meta AI. Users can edit or touch up an image directly in the chat before sending it. There are available presets and styles along with generative editing. Second, the AI Writing Help feature now shows a suggested draft when you initiate a response to a chat.
