A Retro Revival for NES Fans
Exactly forty years ago, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) revolutionized gaming in North America. Now, 8BitDo — known for blending retro design with modern innovation — is commemorating this milestone with the NES40 collection, reimagining its popular devices in the iconic gray, black, and red aesthetic of the original console.
The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller – N40 Edition features mostly cosmetic changes that echo the NES design. Its black-and-gray shell, bright red buttons, and matching charging dock deliver authentic nostalgia. The controller also includes four interchangeable joystick caps, while the grips are etched with milestone dates marking historic Nintendo and 8BitDo launches.
Under the hood, performance mirrors the standard Ultimate 2, offering TMR joysticks, Hall effect triggers, RGB LED joystick rings, customizable bumpers, and extra back buttons. It supports Switch, Switch 2, and Windows, and comes bundled with both a Retro Receiver for the original NES and a 2.4GHz adapter for low-latency gaming. Limited to 1,985 units, the N40 controller is available for preorder at $79.99, shipping November 15, 2025.
A Premium Take on the Retro Keyboard
The Retro 68 Keyboard N40 Edition modernizes 8BitDo’s mechanical keyboard lineup with premium materials and upgraded internals. Despite its smaller 68-key layout, the keyboard now features a full aluminum alloy chassis, metal keycaps, and a switch upgrade from Kailh’s Box White V2 to Box Ice Cream Pro Max linear switches.
It also packs a 6,500mAh battery that delivers up to 300 hours per charge and comes with the brand’s signature Super Buttons, now wirelessly connected for cleaner setups. Weighing 2,200 grams, the Retro 68 is more than twice as heavy — and luxurious — as its predecessor. It’s priced at $499.99, available for preorder now, and will ship in January 2026.
An Upgraded Speaker for Classic Sound
The 8BitDo Retro Cube 2 Speaker N Edition preserves the NES-inspired cube design introduced in 2016 but adds several key upgrades. The new model offers dual stereo drivers, music and gaming modes, a built-in microphone, and a 2,000mAh battery providing up to 30 hours of playtime. Connectivity has been enhanced with USB-C and optional 2.4GHz wireless mode via an included dongle. The speaker also supports wireless charging through its new magnetic dock.
Originally priced at $35, the updated Retro Cube 2 is now $49.99, available for preorder today, and launches on December 8, 2025.
Celebrating Four Decades of Gaming Legacy
From controllers to keyboards to speakers, the 8BitDo NES40 Collection honors the NES legacy by fusing retro design with cutting-edge functionality. Whether for nostalgic collectors or modern gamers, these limited-edition accessories deliver both performance and sentimentality — a true tribute to the console that defined a generation.
